The SteelSeries Apex 3 is an excellent gaming keyboard with rubber dome buttons. It has an excellent construct quality despite its budget price, as well as it additionally comes with a wonderful magnetic wrist rest. It provides a good inputting experience that isn’t fatiguing, yet some individuals could find the keys a little mushy and lack distinctive tactile feedback. Sadly, its latency is a bit high for a wired keyboard, and its rubber dome switches have a long pre-travel range, so it’s not one of the most responsive. The RGB backlight is zone-lit, although many personalisation alternatives are still via SteelSeries’ Engine software program. In general, it’s an excellent alternative for those on a budget or who don’t like mechanical key-boards.

The Peak 3 steps 17.5 x 5.5 inches, although the width can increase slightly, thanks to a magnetic, detachable, 3.1-inch wrist rest. The black plastic framework feels slim, light, and a little inexpensive as to the stress keycaps. The wrist rest, however, is surprisingly strong, providing durable, comfy assistance. As the keyboard is a little on the tiny side, there’s very little space for additional keys. In the upper-right edge, there’s a quantity dial (convenient) and a “multimedia button,” which can, in theory, play, stop and miss tracks, depending upon how many times you press it in rapid sequence. In my tests, though, I couldn’t get the switch to do anything, updating the firmware and trying it out with various media players.

Nevertheless, quiet performance is among the Apex 3’s checkmark features, as well as it’s tough to achieve that with the clickiness of mechanical buttons. SteelSeries’ Whisper-Quiet membrane layer switches most definitely measure up to their name, making the Pinnacle 3 a great choice if you play or type a great deal in the evening while others are resting nearby. After a little bit, our fingers accommodated the Whisper-Quiet buttons. When we took the time to consider that SteelSeries sacrificed the high-speed efficiency of mechanical switches in the name of family member silence, whatever mental block that was stopping us from truly appreciating the Whisper-Quiet layout dissolved quickly. Really, Steelseries Peak 3 is a joy to video game and service.
